Now gamers from all over Vermont and the surrounding regions can browse the dynamic event calendar, register to make new friends and participate in discussion groups.

And, of course, we have all the latest information on Green Mountain Game Days, particularly the upcoming Summer Game 'n Grill. Surf on over and check it out!

As part of the move, this blog becomes dormant. This Week in Gaming and other posts of interest will continue, though, over at the new Green Mountain Gamers blog.

Summer Game 'n Grill 2010 is June 19th at Essex Memorial Hall

Yes, it's true. We've finally locked down a date and place for  the first Green Mountain Game Day. Saturday, June 19th at Memorial Hall in Essex Village, Vermont, Green Mountain Gamers hosts the first annual Game 'n Grill.

Where and When
The 2010 Summer Game 'n Grill takes place on Saturday, June 19th, from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. If you can't or don't want stay for the whole day, drop in when you can.

Memorial Hall is on Towers Road, just north of the intersection of Routes 15 and 128 in Essex. For directions and parking information, see the Summer Game 'n Grill page.

Games to Play
All tabletop games are welcome at Green Mountain Game Days: board games, miniatures, role-playing games, the whole megillah. We encourage people to share ahead of time what games they plan to share, so others can get suitably amped. Let us know via our Run a Game form and we'll post the information on the Summer Game 'n Grill page.

We're also working up some special treats, like a Dominion tournament, so keep an eye on the blog for more information on that.

What's Cooking?
The Summer Game 'n Grill in particular brings good food into the mix of good people and good games. We'll have a grill at the ready, so feel free to put some meat to the flame, or bring your preferred picnic-style comestibles.

How Much
While a Green Mountain Game Day doesn't have an admission fee, we do ask participants to make a $5-10 donation. This money goes directly to the cost of renting the hall and fuel for the grill. Any excess donated money helps pay for the next game day, helping to keep the gaming and good times rolling.

Carnage the 13th

Carnage, Vermont's longest-running tabletop game convention, is gearing up for their thirteenth year in 2010. As an all-out gaming convention, they welcome every kind of game that's played. They always try to strike a balance between old favorites and the new hotness, to use the modern parlance. Board games, card games, miniatures, role-playing games, LARPs, the whole shebang.

This year's theme is slasher horror, going by the fact that the horsemen of the apocalypse and their steeds are all wearing hockey masks. Should be a ripping good time!

This year, Carnage takes place at the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, VT, November 5th through 7th. Submissions for events are now open via the website.

Geek Week 4.0 Observed!

Geek Week 4.0's Game Con was fantastic. We went, we saw, we placed cubes, meeples, influence tokens and every other variety of game-playing paraphernalia on which we could lay hands.

People literally packed the Langdon Street Cafe to play board games. At one point in the afternoon, there was standing room only for new arrivals. I counted eight tables of games being played, at least one of which served double duty for Arkham Horror at one end and Endeavor -- neither of which are games that take minimal space -- at the other.

Thanks again to Ben Matchstick for organizing Geek Week and making a place in the schedule for a game day, as well as Langdon Street Cafe hosting it all. Opportunities like Geek Week are rare. We should take advantage of them.

Gaming Calendar Updated

The calendar has been filled out with as many conventions and game days in Vermont and the greater northeastern region for the next year as we know about and have been scheduled at this point in time. Check it out to start planning your next gaming holiday.

As we learn about more events and others lock in their dates, we'll add them to our calendar. And if you know of one we haven't listed, drop us line via email ( ) or the contact form on the Green Mountain Gamers website.

Langdon Street Cafe's Geek Week 4.0 Gaming Con is March 28th

March 24th to 30th, Langdon Street Cafe hosts Geek Week 4.0, a celebration of all things geeky and wonderful. Nights are scheduled with workshops on various topics -- hacking, tapeloops and Dungeons & Dragons to name three -- and the nerdiest musical acts they could find. Their Facebook event page has a thorough listing of what's happening when.

The Sunday of Geek Week, the 28th, is the minicon. It's a game-playing free-for-all that runs throughout the afternoon. There will be a plethora of games on hand to try, or you can bring your own favorite to show off.

Green Mountain Gamers will be there, so if you see one of us, say hello!

Filling Out the Calendar

The calendar's filling out nicely. Thank goodness for the ability to create recurring events for regular game nights like those at Quarterstaff Games and Triple Play.

The next, larger calendar-related task is to get in all the major conventions in the New England area.

Hello world!

This afternoon we had an interesting meeting at Langdon Street Cafe in Montpelier. Six people from different corners of the northern half of Vermont -- Bob, Brennan, Tyler, Rod, Bethany and Chuck, from left to right in the picture -- convened to discuss the possibilities in encouraging more frequent and active gaming in and between the disparate hobby communities.

The Green Mountain Gamers website is just one of the things that came from that meeting. Keep an eye out for more news as it develops.
